When my friend told me that an amazing blues band was going to be playing, I said this will be a great time to shoot some photos with the new Nikon D7000! I brought the 50mm f/1.4 (aka nifty fifty), and the gold standard 70-200 f/2.8 VRII. Knowing that the venue was going to be dimly lit both those lenses would have me covered on the DX crop factor (APS-C) field of view. Most venues have lights that change, this time around the lights were stationary. This was a good thing since I could leave the camera in M (manual) mode and control everything myself. The bad thing was the lights weren’t very stimulating.
This time I decided to process the pictures in B/W and leave the grain from the high ISO’s (some as high as ISO3200) because this was the blues, but hey we are in modern times so for the color shots some noise reduction was used but not much.
The Pork Chop Tom Blues Band has been playing jump style blues since 1998. With their mix of Chicago style blues and West Coast swing this band has been performing in clubs and concert venues all over Southern and Northern California as well as Las Vegas, Nevada.
